I had surgery with Dr. Q on April 11, 2014. I cant express how thankful I am for him giving my life back! I have two little kids that i was struggling to keep up with. Jut walking up stairs i was so out of breath, thats when i knew i had to do something about the weight. I was tired of the up and down and up and down numbers on the scale. I was told about him and of course did lots of research and talked to Bill and Stacy about everything. BEST decision ever made and i am definetely one of the lucky ones that had NO problems at all. I am now a year and almost 2 months out and have went from a size 24/26 to a size 8/10 in pants and a size 2xl/3xl to a medium in tops! My weight surgery day was 285 and i now am at 164! I have been able to do so many new things with my kids and husband and just feel so much more alive than i ever did. If you are questioning having this done...i HIGHLY recommend it especially with Dr. Q and his amazing staff (the anesthesia guy...super HOT ladies hehe). You will be very well taken care of there and they all are just as nice and understanding and helpful. Dr. Q is one of the BEST doctors i have EVER met as he GENUINELY cares about his patients!!! Good luck to all of you in your journey and to those debating on starting this journey! XOXOXO to ALL!

How do I begin to put into words the wonderful experience I had with Dr. Quiñones and his staff? Allow me to share a little of my experience.
My first contact with Santa Fe Medical group was through Bill Yanez. I’ve always been a cautious person so I put Bill through the ringer. The only time I really had to discuss the possibility of surgery was on weekends and let me tell you I took up hours and hours of his time before I actually made the decision to use them.
When I arrived at the airport Eddies picked me up and drove me straight to the hospital. Since I happen to speak Spanish we talked the whole way in Spanish. He was very friendly, open, yet professional. The second I arrived at the hospital two male Interpreters were waiting for me. They introduced themselves to me and told me that I had received calls from family members checking to see if I arrived safely. They quickly ushered me into a small clean private room where they had set up a computer with a magic jack. They told me I could call as many people as I wanted to in the US for free through this system. They explained to me that they would be taking shifts staying in the room next door. All I needed to do was call and they would instantly come to my room. These guys were so friendly yet professional I could not help but be impressed. After I made calls I filled out paperwork, the nurse drew blood work and started my IV. Prior to surgery Dr. Quiñones came in, introduced himself, asked me if I had any questions before we got started. I only had a few (since I had grilled Bill to death). I was ushered into the operating room and my surgery began.
Up to this point everything was pretty routine. What really impressed me was all the truly legendary service I received after the operation. The nurses were FABULOUS. They continually checked in to see if I was ok and needed anything. (By the way guys if you’re considering surgery there is one super beautiful nurse who is just as nice as she is pretty. You might want to come have the surgery and then try to take a turn for the nurse (LOL).
Here’s when my experience gets interesting. Dr. Quiñones put a drain tube in one of my incision points because while they do 2 leak tests during surgery, he does an additional leak test the next day. In his thousands of surgery experiences he’s only has 2 cases of bleeding. I was his third. He was concerned that the tube was not draining light pink like it was supposed to so when it was time for me to check out of the hospital and into the hotel he told the nurse he would feel more comfortable leaving the drain in. That way he could check on it one more time before I left. I was taken to the hotel and honestly I was a bit nervous over the whole blood thing.
That night in my hotel room, I decided to call Dr. Quiñones myself on his cell phone and ask him if he would look at my drain tube one more time. What I didn’t realize is that that evening the entire staff were having their annual Christmas party. He left in the middle of the party and came over to my hotel room. He checked me out decided to sit there for about 30-45 minutes to observe what was going on. When I met Dr. Quiñones originally he was a bit on the quiet side but in the hotel I learned a lot more about him. He will NOT allow a patient to go home sick. He delivers more than he promises and trust me, his patients come FIRST. That night he made the decision to bring me back to the hospital for another night. The next day he announced he was going to re-open me to see what the problem might be. When he opened me up there was no bleeding and I was completely clean inside (evidently I might have coughed hard and caused a blood vessel to bleed but it had already stopped by the time he went in).
For the extra night in the hospital and the extra surgery HE CHARGED ME NOTHING!!! Who does that??
I offered to pay him 500-600 dollars extra (because that is all I thought my credit card would hold. He refused the payment. He told me he sends his patients home in good condition.
Dr. Quiñones is a die-hard Chargers fan and he has season tickets to all the games. Because the only time he could arrange for his team of surgeons to be available for the re-surgery was during the game, he missed the game because of ME!
I cannot put into words how much I respect Dr. Quiñones ability (he’s had more than 10,000 hours of surgery experience), integrity (to me the test of a good doctor is what happens when things do not go perfect and I assure you-he’s the best), ethics (he stuck by his original surgery cost even though I’m sure it cost him an extra out of pocket fee).
Would I go back to him again? Absolutely!! Would I recommend my best friend to go to him? Absolutely!! Dr. Quiñones, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you did for me.
Doctor Quiñones, gracias de todo corazón por todo lo que hizo por me. Siempre estaré en su deuda.

I had surgery with Dr. Quinones on October 24, 2013. Oh wow...I could NOT believe my experience to be any more pleasing. He is a good physician. He cares about his patients...You know...I can tell...Im a nurse and I know what is procedures and what is real. This is my experience....Straight talk!

My Dr. is the ONLY one that I haven't found any complaints or complications. At the time, my cost...It was $4500.00 ($500 deposit paypal) and the rest in a cashiers check at the time of arrival. All you pay for is the flights. You do the two week preop diet and then you fly out on your NPO day/scheduled surgery for the after noon. You fly to SanDiego, CA and the driver has a medical clearance paperwork takes you across the border. They meet you at the airport. (Need passports). The Doctor I used was Dr. Quinones. He is a about 40yrs old who speaks fluent English. He is very calming and takes his patients VERY SERIOUS. He has no more than 3 surgeries a day. As soon as you arrive, they bring you to a small room and start your IV (get your blood)/starts fluids with your antibiotics, get your gown and cute little stockings (TED Hose)...lol...and a surgical hat. You sign consents and they walk you to the operating room. The anesthesiologist will meet you, question you and offer you (no charge) an epidural (subdural). DO IT!! It does NOT hurt at all and it makes you feel no pain for first 24 hours. Then they can use less general anesthesia.
I was wanting to, and able to walk the hallway without assistance with NO PAIN AT ALL...I did have pressure and bloating the second day, but Nothing the first...I felt great!!! My husband is also a nurse and he was able to stay with me in the room(no charge). Since you have NO pain, you need nothing narcotic. Gas X strips (take to get the pressure off) you bring with you. I usually have severe nausea after surgery so I discussed that, and was premedicated and didnt have any issue at all...ever. You get Antibiotics in your fluids while your there.
You stay in the hospital two nights and the third night they bring you to a VERY NICE hotel (Real del Rio) close to the border where you can have your broth in the restaurants. The doctor is only 5min from the hotel if needed. He does TWO leak test in surgery with dye and after he staples, he adds sutures to make sure it's tight. He does a leak test the last day by making you drink a cup of apple juice with purple dye in it and see if they have any in your JP drain. My incision sites are already closed and healed (one week out). Then you fly back the next morning...the driver picks you up at the hotel and takes you across the border (no issues) and a medical pass and passports and you fly back home. EASIEST LESS PAINFUL SURGERY I HAVE EVER HAD AND WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER SURGERY WITHOUT THE SUBDURAL. You also need about $120 or (1500 pesos) for your prescriptions before you leave. You get Antibiotic (avalox x3 days), Tramadol capsules and an antacid. Other than that, they have a pt. advocate that stays there 24 hrs that wait on the family, translates, takes them to dinner, etc.!! There is a magic jack setup in the room so you can call anyone for free. Never shut out from the outside world and your family and friends can call you too!!
That's my story!!!

I had surgery with the Santa Fe Medical Group on October 5th, 2012. My experience with the entire staff was fantastic! When I awoke from surgery I had very little pain, in fact the only thing that hurt at all was my upper left shoulder and neck from the gas pains. I had NO pain what so ever in my stomach or the incision. I was able to get up and walk around the facility and take a shower on my own. The facility was nice, and clean, with some of the friendliest nurses I have even had the pleasure of meeting. After my 2 night stay in the facility I was transported to the Real Del Rio hotel. It was my first time being out of the country, and I was alone, but I felt safe and well taken care of the whole time. I was very impressed with the hotel accommodations, as they were much nicer than many hotels I have stayed at in the U.S. I am now home and able to go about my day as if I had never had a surgery at all. If I had to, I would make this decision time and time again. I feel that I chose a wonderful doctor, and could not have had a better experience. Thanks, SFMG!

I had surgery VSG surgery November 6th 2012. I am from California. I was picked up at the Border Station parking lot and driven to the Santa Fe hospital. Dr. Q and his staff were waiting for me and showed me to my private room. Immediately they started surgery prep and I was in surgery with in 90 minutes. I woke up in my room and had some pain that didnt last very long. I slept throughout the night rather well. My bed was comfy and I had a fan and a TV to use. The nurses checked on me regularly and added pain meds and antibiotics to my IV. The following day I felt pretty good. I brought my laptop and they provided a perfect internet signal. I watched movies and played online poker. The second night I showered and had mild gas pain which I would walk around to manage. On day three I was released by noon. I had a purple drink leak test and my drain removed by Dr Q. Henry picked up my prescription pain meds and acid reducer and they dropped me off at the Hotel del Rio. At the hotel I ordered room service chicken soup and sipped the broth for $7.00 and ut was delicious. I stayed in my room mostly since I was alone. I had a nice king size bed and was comfy. The room was much like a nicer Vegas hotel room.. I felt perfectly safe and its just a minute from the US border. By checkout time the next day I was picked up at the hotel and driven back to the Border Station parking lot. I was given an email address to contact Dr Q. if I had any questions. I was scared to travel to Tijuana alone but found the experience to be pleasurable and felt safe the whole time. I had a very easy recovery very little pain and 100% satisfied with my decision. I am just five weeks Post Op and I am already on solid foods and exercising and losing at a decent rate. I have and will continue to recommend this Dr. for the gastric sleeve procedure. So far I feel like I have added many happy and healthy years to my life. I have had zero complications up to this point. The staff was amazing and caring and I could not imagine it could get any better than my experience with Dr. Q.

I had Gastric Bypass surgery on May 21, 2012 with Dr Quinones and I have lost a total of 40 lbs. I am very happy with the surgery and a bariatric surgeon here in Canada told me the surgery was very well done.

My surgery was a success ! Dr Quinones is an excellent surgeon considering it was a difficult reversal surgery because of scare tissues caused by my previous lapaband and I would use his medical expertise anytime.

I need to loose another 38 lbs in order to acheive my normal BMI at 140 lbs. It's not easy loosing weight, I have to do alot of exercises, good diet and 2 litres of water every day. If I don't do this, by body will not loose weight by itself because it is fighting hard against weight lose since I'm taking medications that make me gain weight and reduce my metabolism.

Thank you everyone for all the help and good services that you gave me at Santa Fe Medical Clinic !!

Sincerely,

Lisa

I had surgery with Dr. Quinones on October 23, 2012.
I flew from Iowa to San Diego for my surgery and the first night i stayed in San Diego at the Quality Inn. The next morning at 7:00 am the medical van arrived promptly to pick up my husband and myself. The driver was a great conversationalist!!
We arrived at the Santa Fe Clinic and were impressed by the cleanliness and the newness of the facility. I was then take to a room and prepped for my surgery. I had my legs wrapped to prevent blood clots and blood was taken at that time. An IV was inserted and soon I was led to the operating room. I remember speaking with Dr. Quinones and the Anesthesiologist before the surgery and then the next thing I knew I was waking up back in my room. I was put in a room with 2 beds and my husband was allowed to stay with me in the hospital the whole time. This was definetly a plus!!
The staff at the Santa Fe Clinic were absolutely wonderful and Dr. Quinones was Awesome. I had no pain except some gas in my stomach. The staff came with Antibiotics and pain meds every time I needed it. I could not have asked for more. Dr. Quinones came to see me every day and see how I was doing. On the 2nd day after my surgery I drank some dye to see if I had any leaks and I didn't. At that time Dr. Quinones took out my drain which didn't hurt a bit. He then told me that he does a leak test before he closes up the stomach incisions and that he also sutures along with the staples.
I was released that day and taken by Henry, The Liaison to The beautiful Del Rio Hotel! What a beautiful place!! The next morning the medical van arrived promptly to take my husband and I back to the San Diego Airport. I flew 4 hours from Sand Diego to Chicago and then another half hour back to my home in Iowa with no problems. My life has changed since my sleeve. I have lost 41 lbs. and I only eat healthy foods now. I want to Thank Dr. Quinones and his team for an Awesome experience and for changing my life!!!!
